The 4 main regional airports serving Val d’Isère are: Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon and Chambéry. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. SHARED TRANSFER: This is generally the cheapest and most environmentally friendly option. Shared transfers are often quicker than public transport.
PRIVATE TRANSFER: This option offers a quicker journey and provides a door-to-door service. However, the costs are significantly higher than shared transfers.

Transfers from Geneva to Val d’Isère run every Saturday and Sunday. Grenoble Airport services run on Saturdays and some Sundays. Lyon Airport services only run on Saturdays.

VAL D’ISERE TRANSFER TIMES & DISTANCES
Chambery Airport is the closest airport to Val d’Isere with the shortest transfer time. However, it is very prone to delays and has a limited choice of flights. There are more airlines and destinations available from Geneva (GVA), Lyon (LYS) and Grenoble (GNB) airports.
The transfer time obviously depends on the traffic and weather conditions. We know when to allow extra time for the journey, such as during the French school holidays. Val d’Isere is at the end of the Tarentaise valley road, the D902.

All our airport transfers to Val d’Isère from Grenoble, Geneva and Lyon Airports can stop at either of our two bus stops which are shown below. The Tourist Office map of Val d’Isere can help you find your accommodation so you can see how to get there from our stops.
The local authorities restrict access to the centre of Val d’Isere during the majority of the day and so:
– If you arrive into the resort before 9pm, we can only drop you at La Daille. From here you can take the ‘Red Train’ shuttle bus onto your accommodation.
– If you depart the resort after 07:50, we can only pick you up at La Daille. The ‘Red Train’ shuttle bus starts operating at around 07:00.
Val d'Isere Bus Stops
Val d’Isere Bus Station (La Daille) also known as the ‘Gare Routiere’ is in the La Daille part of the resort. It is close to the footbridge which crosses over to the funicular. This bus stop is used by the ‘Red Train’ in-resort shuttle. See it on Google Maps here.

SKIING IN VAL D’ISERE
Val d’Isere is a world famous destination – and rightly so. It has everything you could wish for in a ski resort. Fantastic facilities, beautiful architecture, a modern lift system, and of course, great skiing.
It has a wide range of accommodations, hotels, bars, restaurants, cafes and spas and the sports & leisure complex is one of the best in the Alps.
It sits at an altitude of 1800m on the border of the Vanoise National Park and Italy. As part of the Espace Killy ski area, you will get some of the best skiing in the world.
The area covers over 300km of marked runs, serviced by 88 ski lifts. There are 27 black runs, 40 reds, 66 blues,23 greens and due to the 2 glaciers, your holiday will be snow-sure. The only downside of Val d’Isere – the prices!

Geneva Airport is probably the best airport for getting to Val d'Isere and one of the most popular for a lot of travellers. It has a massive selection of international and UK flights and plenty of transport options to get to the resort. It can get busy at the week-ends though. Lyon and Grenoble Airports are both good alternatives. Chambery Airport, although closer by distance, has a limited choice of flights and can sometimes be prone to delays.
Turin Airport might seem close on a map, but the high mountain pass (the D902 Col d'Iseran) that crosses over into the Maurienne valley is closed during the winter.
Chambery Airport (CMF) is the closest airport to Val d'Isere (144 km), with a transfer time of about 2.5 hours. Geneva Airport (GVA) is in 2nd place (175 km) and about 3 hours away. Grenoble Airport (GNB) takes 3rd place (215 km) with a transfer time of just over 3 hours, followed closely by Lyon (LYS) which is about 3.5 hours away (219 km).
These journey times are averages for a normal Saturday in winter, but of course they vary depending on the weather, traffic and road conditions.
Although Chambery Airport is geographically the closest, Geneva Airport is considered a more convenient choice for getting to Val d'Isere. This is because it has such a huge choice of international flights and regular transfer options. Chambery has a more limited flight schedule.
Turin Airport might seem closer and it is, in the summer. However in the winter the high mountain pass (the D902 Col d'Iseran) that crosses over into the Maurienne valley is closed and inaccessible.
Ben's Bus has 2 stops in Val d'Isere. The bus station (known as the 'Gare Routiere' in France) is located at the entrance to the resort, in La Daille. This is a purpose built part of the resort with many cheaper accommodation blocks. The La Daille bus station is always available and has a lovely new bus shelter. From here you can take the very frequent, free shuttle buses into the centre. If you are arriving into the resort after 8pm or leaving the resort before 7:50am, you can also use our stop in the centre of the village. The authorities restrict access to centre during the day, which is why this stop is not always available.

The transfer from Geneva Airport to Val d'Isere usually takes about 3 hours 10 minutes, depending on the traffic and weather. The journey can take longer during busy periods, particularly at Christmas, New Year and during French February school holidays. Between around 8am - 3pm the roads, depending on which direction you're driving, can get extremely congested between Moutiers and Bourg St Maurice. This is because the road narrows to 1 lane at times and this road services so many ski resorts, such as Les Arcs, La Plagne and Tignes.
How Long Does It Take To Get From Grenoble Airport To Val d'Isere?
The transfer from Grenoble Airport to Val d'Isere usually takes about 3 hours 20 minutes, although journey times can vary depending on traffic and weather conditions. Extra time is needed at certain times of the day, especially between 8am - 3pm (depending on your direction of travel). The roads can get extremely congested between Moutiers and Bourg St Maurice because the road narrows to 1 lane at times and this road services so many ski resorts, including Les Arcs, La Plagne and Tignes. A lot of extra time is needed when the European schools, particularly the French, are on holiday.
How Long Does It Take To Get From Lyon Airport To Val d'Isere?
The transfer from Lyon Airport to Val d'Isere usually takes about 3 hours 30 minutes, although this depends heavily on the traffic conditions and weather. The journey does take longer if you are travelling between 8am - 3pm (depending on the direction you're driving). Over the festive season and during the February European holidays, the roads can become extremely congested between Moutiers and Bourg St Maurice, where the road narrows to 1 lane at times. There can also be queues at the peages (tolls), since the Parisians and Lyonnais use the same route to get home.
