Serre Chevalier is not just one resort but more a collection of towns spread along the valley floor. It is situated in the Southern French Alps, in the ‘departement’ of Hautes-Alpes. Each town is about 8km apart from each other, connected by a busy road that has free public buses running back and forth quite frequently. It’s important to research each town before you book your holiday, as each as its own pros and cons. For instance, Monetiers les Bains has a quiet, authentic village feel to it whilst Villeneuve (literally translated to new town) has a more modern feel. The highest town in France, Briancon, is a decent size with a year round population and a stunning, UNESCO protected old fort.
The ski area is quite varied. With north facing slopes, a good snow record and the highest elevation at 2, 800m, it’s fairly snow-sure. The 61 ski lifts covers 410 hectares of marked ski runs. It has 13 blacks, 30 reds, 25 blues, 13 greens, set in beautiful wooded mountains.
Turin and Grenoble Airports are the two most convenient airports for Serre Chevalier. Grenoble has a wide choice of flights from the UK and Ireland, but is limited for destinations elsewhere in Europe. Lyon Airport is also a good option, as it covers a lot of flight destinations with lots of different airlines.
The best airport for your trip will depend on your flight options, transfer times and which part of the Serre Chevalier valley you are staying in. If you're travelling from the UK, it is worth comparing Turin, Grenoble and Lyon flights and the available airport transfers before booking your flight.

Grenoble (GNB) is the next closest (155 km, about 3 hours) followed by Lyon (LYS) which is 200 km away and about 3 hours 30 minutes driver. These 2 airports offer a wider choice of flights, especially from the UK.
The transfer time and the most suitable airport will depend on your final destination within the valley, traffic and weather conditions. Serre Chevalier is a large ski area stretching along the Guisane Valley, so the exact transfer time depends on where you are staying. Briançon is closer to Turin, whilst Le Monêtier-les-Bains is closer to Grenoble. Chantemerle and Villeneuve sit pretty much in between the 2 airports.
