LYON AIRPORT TO VAL THORENS TRANSFER TIME
We have 4 well timed buses going back and forth each Saturday, which means you shouldn’t have to wait long. Visit the section “BUS TIMES” below to find more details on this. The transfer time from Lyon Airport to Val Thorens is between 3 hours 20 minutes – 3 hrs 50 mins. This is dependent on the date, time of day, the weather and traffic. We allow more time for the journey when we know the travel conditions may be bad. The distance from Lyon Airport to Val Thorens is 199 km. The route our vehicles usually take is the A43 (E70) motorway to Albertville, via Chambery, then the N90 national road to Moutiers before climbing the D117 up to Val Thorens.
WHERE IS THE BUS STOP IN VAL THORENS?
Our service stops at the main bus station, the Val Thorens Gare Routiere, as well as the Val Thorens UCPA centre, 5 minutes down the road from the main resort. Our shared ski transfers from Lyon Airport to Val Thorens run on the following dates
Fridays: Every Friday from the 14th December 2018 until the 29th March 2019
Saturdays: Every Saturday from the 15th December 2018 until the 6th April 2019
Sundays: Every Sunday from the 16th December 2018 until the 31st March 2019
Other Days of The Week: We do not operate this service on other weekdays. We would recommend taking the shuttle bus service from Lyon Airport to Grenoble city centre. From Grenoble you can take a train to Moutiers with SNCF (to catch connecting local buses up to Val Thorens) or check out Altibus for details on public buses. Alternatively, you could book a private transfer from Lyon Airport with Actibus.

– On the 14th, 15th & 16th December 2018 we only have services from Lyon airport.
– On the the 29th and 31st March and the 6th April 2019 we only have services to Lyon airport.

The transfer time between Lyon Airport & Val Thorens is usually between 3 hrs 20 mins & 3 hrs 50 mins. These times are approximations. Please remember that expected journey times are difficult to predict in the mountains due to weather and traffic conditions.
We allow extra time for the journey when we know the traffic may be bad. With years of experience driving this route, we know how long the transfer time may be depending on the time and date of the transfer. Put your flight details into our booking system and we will show you a list of available bus times. We may ask you to change buses at Moutiers. Our reps or drivers will help you with this.
Our coaches depart from either Bus Bay 11 or 12 of the “Gare Routiere” on the Ground Floor of Terminal 1. There is a Transport Desk and, on Saturdays, a dedicated Ben’s Bus desk just inside the main doors opposite Bus Bay No. 11. Our reps will be wearing blue Bens Bus uniforms.
We have 2 stops in Val Thorens, both of which are detailed below. The majority of our customers will wish to use our Gare Routiere stop. If you are staying at the UCPA, then scroll further down.
Val Thorens Gare Routiere Bus Stop
We pick up and drop off at the main bus station, the ‘Gare Routiere’, in the centre of Val Thorens. The GPS coordinates are 45°17’51.9″N 6°34’47.9″E and you can see it on google maps here.

Val Thorens UCPA Bus Stop
Walk out of the main entrance of the UCPA and take the track to the left, leading onto the main road. Our bus will stop in the lay-by directly opposite, on the side of the road heading down the mountain. The GPS coordinates are 45°17’58.7″N 6°34’09.3″E and you can see it on google maps here.
Our buses are timed to give our customers at least 40 minutes (often more) to pass through Passport Control, Customs and Baggage Reclaim.
Unfortunately, unlike our other routes, we cannot hold our transfers back to wait for people who might be delayed. This is because the driver hours are strictly controlled by the EU and they need to get back to their depot before their hours run out. Our transfer departure times are also closely monitored by the local authorities to ensure a timely service and penalties are levied for late running services.
If you are running late, you can call our manager at the airport (their number will be on your e-Ticket) and they will do their best to hold the bus back a few minutes. Otherwise, we will get you on our next service at no extra cost, provided there is space. We have many buses going back and forth each day and our staff are trained to do the very best by our customers to ensure your holiday starts off on the right note.
